Egypt, where protest is an honor crime
More draconian restrictions on strikes and freedom of assembly
Egypt’s Cassation Court has ruled that “protest-related crimes” are to be considered “crimes involving a breach of honor.” This means public and private sector employers can now fire their workers if the latter are “accused” of calling for or taking part in a protest, even before they are indicted and without any administrative investigation.
